The Tunisian Association of SOS Villages of Gammarth, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Tunis-Medina, held a press conference on Thursday to launch the new scientific and cultural centre in the village, named after Sheikh Othman Battikh.
During the press conference, Karima Battikh, president of the Rotary Club's Charitable Works Committee, stressed that the project was in honour of Sheikh Othman Battikh, former Mufti of the Republic of Tunisia, who was the first person to donate Zakat al-Fitr to the SOS village of Gammarth.
Speaking to TAP, Karima Battikh said that this new cultural and scientific centre will provide training to the children of the SOS village as well as school drop-outs in the northern suburb of Gammarth and its surrounding areas in several specialities, namely: robotics, computer science and cinematographic creation for all ages. The centre's activities will start next October, she added.
She pointed out that the centre has several rooms, including the body expression room, sports, yoga, theatre, film screenings and a library. Training sessions and clubs for children and young people are also planned.
"This scientific and cultural project aims to increase the capacities of young people and facilitate their integration into the labour market," she added.
She reiterated that young people wishing to benefit from the centre's services can contact the SOS Village Gammarth or the Rotary Club.
