Eastern Nzema: The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council has elected Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Senior Divisional Chief of Basake, as the Acting President of the Council.
According to Ghana News Agency, a Standing Committee of the Council announced in a press release signed by four Senior Divisional Chiefs that the decision came as a result of ongoing disputes involving Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III and his family over the past year. The release highlighted that these disputes have resulted in violence, disrupting peace and security within the Council, and affecting the socio-economic and political environment of Eastern Nzema. The unrest has also hindered the Council's ability to effectively engage with investment opportunities.
The decision to elect Nana Bonya Kofi VI was made in accordance with the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (ACT 759), paragraph 15, clauses 1, 2, and 3. The Council expressed hope that this change in leadership would help restore normalcy and ensure peace within the area, contributing to its rapid growth.
The release further called upon authorities to facilitate the return of the Registrar for the traditional council. This move is considered essential to provide administrative support to the interim management, aiding in their efforts to rebuild and stabilize the Council's operations.
