Ghana to Strengthen Border Security Collaboration with Neighbouring Nations

Accra: Ghana's Deputy Minister-designate for the Interior, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has announced plans for the country to enhance its security measures by collaborating with neighboring nations' security agencies. This initiative aims to address threats posed by terrorists and extremist groups.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Okletey Terlabi, speaking before Parliament's Appointments Committee, emphasized the importance of sharing security intelligence with neighboring countries. He highlighted the porous nature of Ghana's borders and the need for a collective effort within the sub-region to ensure border security.

Addressing issues related to security personnel, Mr. Okletey Terlabi stressed the importance of providing adequate accommodation for those serving in security services. He also advocated for prison reforms, suggesting that inmates be allowed to engage in commercial farming to support their sustenance and contribute to educational institutions.

The nominee further proposed a public-private partnership approach to develop prison facilities and address overcrowding in the nation's correctional institutions. On the matter of reported clashes between the Police and the Military, Mr. Okletey Terlabi called for mutual respect and cooperation between the two forces to maintain peace and order.

He clarified the roles of the Police and the Military in internal security, stating that the Police are primarily responsible, with the Military providing support when necessary.
