Kamgbunli: The Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe have made a cash donation of GHc11,000.00 to support Mr. Dauda Nuhu, also known as 'Master Run', a volunteer in road traffic control in the Kamgbunli community. The donation acknowledges Mr. Nuhu's dedicated service of 18 years in managing traffic to ensure the safety of school children crossing the road at the Kamgbunli intersection on the Takoradi-Elubo highway.
According to Ghana News Agency, Kamgbunli was the only Nzema community that benefitted from an underpass during the construction of the international road by the ABU Construction Company in the early 1980s. This underpass facilitated the safe crossing of residents to the other side of the town. However, when the Chinese Construction Company took over, the underpass was destroyed, making it unusable for school children who had to cross the road, often resulting in accidents.
Mr. Shaibu Issaka, a representative of Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe, presented the cash donation on behalf of the Vice-President of the Group, Mr. Osman Alhaji Nuhu, to Mr. Dauda Nuhu. The Vice-President noted that the donation was raised during the annual conference of Kamgbunli Citizens in the diaspora in Italy, chaired by the Nkosuohene of Kamgbunli, Alhaji Ali Nuhu Abeka, where they discussed the town's development.
The group recognized Mr. Nuhu's efforts and sacrifices in traffic control and emphasized the need for government intervention to improve safety at the intersection by designing a proper zebra crossing and installing a traffic light at the bus terminal.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Dauda Nuhu expressed gratitude for the donation and thanked the elders of Kamgbunli for their financial support over the years. He appealed to the government for traffic reflectors and formal employment to continue his work.
Alhaji Sophiano, a retired District Director of Education for Nzema-East and an indigene of Kamgbunli, commended Mr. Nuhu for his dedication to traffic control. He mentioned that the town's elders agreed to provide him with a monthly stipend and urged the government to install traffic lights at the intersection. He also advised drivers to reduce their speed when passing through the town to ensure pedestrian safety.
The elders of Kamgbunli expressed appreciation for the contributions of Kamgbunli Citizens in Europe to the community's development and appealed for continued support.
