Amenfi east: Tetrete Foundation, an education-focused NGO, has made an appeal for support to complete the construction of Amenfi State University College, which has been ongoing for the past four years. Mr. Shadrach Ainoo, Executive Director of the Foundation, emphasized the university's potential to train and develop human resources in the region and serve as a research-based institution addressing contemporary issues.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ainoo's appeal was made during a fundraising event themed 'Building a Legacy for Wassa Amenfi', held at the Amenfiman Senior High School in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region. He highlighted the importance of the university for regional and national human resource development and called on locals and Ghanaians at large to contribute to the project's completion.
Mr. Ainoo noted the Western Region's richness in natural resources but pointed out the scarcity of universities. He stressed the need for more higher education institutions to enhance the development of both natural and human resources. The Tetrete Foundation, he added, has a history of contributing to youth development through scholarships, internships, and vocational training.
Nana Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim, Omanhene of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, underscored education's role as a catalyst for human development. He warned that delays in the university's completion could hinder community goals and aspirations and urged collective efforts to finish the project promptly.
At the event, Mr. Nicholas Amankwah, Member of Parliament for Amenfi East, promised unwavering support and commitment to the university's completion. Mr. Raymond Nana Ebbah, Amenfi East Municipal Chief Executive, stated that the university's completion aligns with the government's agenda for balanced national development.
The fundraising event concluded with awards for previous donors and raised nearly one million Ghana Cedi towards the university's completion.
