Site workers aged between 45 and 55 called on the government at a press conference held on Friday at the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) headquarters to honour its promises to set up an electronic platform dedicated to them to regularise their situation.
Local coordinator of construction workers in Gabes Nadia Yahmed Ali told TAP that government representatives had confirmed that a platform would soon be operational for the recruitment of construction workers in several tranches, adding that funds had been earmarked for this purpose.
She deplored the Prime Ministry's refusal to draft the minutes of the meetings held with site workers aged between 45 and 55.
"This issue has not been treated seriously enough," she said, calling on the government to implement law number 27 of 2021, which stipulates the State's commitment to regularise the situation of site workers who have passed the age of 45 and have not reached the age of 55 by October 20, 2022, either in annual instalments or by granting a severance cheque to those who choose to leave voluntarily.
Yahmed added that site workers aged between 45 and 55 would continue their militant actions until their legitimate demands were met.
