Queen Mothers Empowered to Tackle Disinformation in Central Region

Cape Coast: The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Ghana Office, in partnership with the National Queen Mothers Ghana, Central Region, has successfully conducted a training session for queen mothers in the region focusing on disinformation and misinformation. This initiative was part of the 6th Annual Queen Mothers' Workshop, themed 'Combating Disinformation and Misinformation: The Role of Queen Mothers in Ensuring Good Governance.'

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, the Paramount Queen Mother of the Denkyira Traditional Area, expressed her appreciation to KAS Ghana for equipping the queen mothers with essential knowledge to combat disinformation and misinformation. She acknowledged the importance of the workshop in empowering community leaders to address these challenges effectively.

Ms. Anna Lena Sabroso-Wasserfall, the Country Representative for KAS, emphasized the serious threats posed by disinformation and misinformation. She highlighted the crucial role queen mothers play in addressing these issues, noting their influence and respect within their communities. She pointed out that queen mothers could act as advocates for an informed citizenry and protectors of social stability.

Dr. James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, the workshop facilitator, encouraged the queen mothers to engage actively in national governance discussions. He stressed the importance of their involvement, noting that their exclusion from national dialogue often under the guise of non-political engagement was a disservice to their inherent political roles.

Nana Yaa Ansua, President of the Bono Regional Queen Mothers Association, praised the workshops for their educational value. She noted that empowering queen mothers through such initiatives could significantly impact community governance and the installation processes of chiefs and queen mothers.
