Some 2,356,630 students are back to school as of September 15, up 2.8% compared with last year.
According to the Ministry of Education, the 2023-2024 school year will also see the opening of 11 new schools, bringing the total number of educational establishments to 6,139, and the creation of 547 additional classes.
Some 156,234 teachers, including 747 new recruits, will teach in primary and high schools this year.
In order to prevent pupils from dropping out of school, 450,000 students will be provided with school meals during the 2023-2024 school year, compared with 285,000 last year, in addition to an increase in the number of students benefiting from school transport, particularly those living in remote regions.
The number of students living in boarding schools has risen to 26,400, compared with 26,082 last year, while the number of boarding schools stands at 292 this year, compared with 289 in the 2022-2023 school year.
