MTN Initiates 42 Blood Donation Centers for ‘Save a Life’ Project Across Ghana

Takoradi: The South West Business District of MTN has launched a significant blood donation drive aimed at collecting numerous pints of blood for the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital's blood bank. This annual initiative seeks to express care and support for individuals and patients in dire need of this critical life-sustaining resource.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kenneth Ofusuhene, the District Communication Manager for MTN, stated that the company aims to collect over 6,100 units of blood, marking the highest target since the inception of the 'Save a Life' campaign. This year, the project is set to operate through 42 designated bleeding centers.

Health professionals from the National Blood Service were present at locations such as the Takoradi Technical Institute and GSTS, where they conducted screenings for potential donors, provided necessary counseling, and offered guidance on blood donation procedures. The eligibility criteria for donors include being a healthy individual between the ages of 17 and 60 who meets the screening requirements.

Madam Mary Avormey, representing Donor Care from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, urged institutions to contribute logistical support. She highlighted the importance of blood donations for patients undergoing surgeries, accident victims, pregnant women, and cancer patients, emphasizing the need for hospitals to maintain a steady blood supply for emergencies and medical crises.

She appealed to the public to participate in the event, encouraging Ghanaians to visit the various centers and donate blood to save lives. The initiative not only aims to replenish blood banks but also to inspire healthcare workers by ensuring a reliable blood supply is available.
