Major General William Agyapong Assumes Command as Ghana’s New Chief of Defence Staff

Accra: Major General William Agyapong, the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has officially taken charge of the Ghana Armed Forces. His appointment commenced on Monday, March 24, 2025, following a Transfer of Authority Parade conducted at the General Headquarters in Accra. According to Ghana News Agency, Major General Agyapong was elevated to the rank of a Two-Star General by President John Dramani Mahama prior to his new appointment. The decoration ceremony was officiated by Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defence. In his new role, Major General Agyapong will be responsible for guiding the strategic direction and operations of the Ghana Armed Forces.
