IMF’s West Africa Executive Director Meets ECOWAS President

Abuja: In a significant meeting, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, welcomed Prof. Wautabouna Ouattara, the newly appointed Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the West Africa region. The session took place as a part of Prof. Ouattara's courtesy visit on Friday, 8 August 2025.

According African Press Organization, President Touray expressed his approval of Prof. Ouattara's new role and emphasized ECOWAS's support for his mandate's success. He highlighted the need for the IMF's involvement in fostering a West African regional market and implementing programs aimed at regional stability and integration.

Prof. Ouattara acknowledged the efforts of ECOWAS in conflict resolution and economic integration within the region. He confirmed his commitment to collaborating closely with ECOWAS and the 14 countries within his jurisdiction to tackle issues such as public debt, budget deficits, and economic growth.
