Accra: Deputy Minister-designate for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has advocated for increased female representation in Ghana's transport sector, highlighting the existing gender gap as an issue requiring urgent attention. She emphasized the importance of integrating women into technical, operational, and leadership roles within the industry.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Affo-Toffey made these remarks during her vetting by Parliament's Appointments Committee in Accra. She also committed to supporting the substantive Minister in developing a safe and efficient transport system in Ghana. She assured the committee of her active involvement in the Ministry's strategic direction, stating she would not be a passive figure in her prospective role.

President John Dramani Mahama, in line with constitutional provisions, has appointed four deputy ministers for parliamentary approval, including Madam Affo-Toffey. The other nominees are Mr. James Gyakye Quayson for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Adam Sukparu for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, and Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah for Health. These appointments have been submitted to Parliament for vetting, which will assess their qualifications and vision for their respective ministries.

The vetting process, as outlined in a memorandum from the Media Relations Department of Parliament, aims to ensure that the nominees are equipped to enhance governance and service delivery in their sectors. President Mahama emphasized that these appointments are vital for building a responsive and efficient government to meet key development goals.
