Assemblyman Intervenes to Halt Illegal Mining in Kikam

Kikam: Mr. Paul Kodwo Kwaw, the Assemblyman for Kikam Electoral Area, has taken decisive action to stop two farmers from leasing their farmlands for illegal mining, which was affecting the River Ajomosu, the town's primary water source.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kodwo Kwaw initiated legal proceedings in the Nkroful court to compel the farmers to cease the illegal mining operations. The farmers, in response, sought an out-of-court settlement and agreed to terminate the illegal mining activities through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism.

Mr. Kodwo Kwaw reported that the farmers have instructed the illegal miners to halt all operations in the river, resulting in the beginning of the river's recovery. He observed that the River Ajomosu is showing signs of improvement and expressed optimism that it would soon return to its clean state.

The positive development has brought relief to the residents of Kikam, particularly the farming communities, as the river is their sole source of drinking water. Mr. Kodwo Kwaw, also the Dean of Assembly Members in Ellembelle, urged other Assembly Members to join the fight against illegal mining in their regions.
