Delta Expands Seamless Check-In Experience

Accra: Delta Air Lines has introduced new digital services to streamline passenger journeys across its global network, including faster bag drop and expanded touchless ID technology.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by Kingdom Concepts Limited said the airline's latest innovation, known as 'App Bag Drop,' enables travellers to skip traditional queues by printing bag tags and dropping off luggage swiftly at designated points.

'No one better connects the world than Delta, and we want to make your connections and travel experience as a whole smoother, smarter and more efficient at every step of the journey. These initiatives rolling out and expanding this summer are big steps towards delivering on that promise,' said Mr. Greg Forbes, Managing Director, Airport Experience.

The 'App Bag Drop' service is currently available at Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Detroit (DTW), and Seattle (SEA), and will be extended to all Delta hubs by the end of 2025.

Delta is also expanding its TSA PreCheck Touchless ID system, formerly known as Delta Digital ID. The technology uses facial recognition to allow eligible SkyMiles members to pass through bag drop and security checkpoints without presenting physical identification.

To qualify, customers must have the Delta app, be enrolled in TSA PreCheck®, be SkyMiles members, and have their passport and Known Traveler Number stored in their profile.

'Touchless ID speeds up bag drop by up to 75%, reducing transactions to just 30 seconds on average. At security, enrolled customers clear checkpoints up to 60% faster than standard TSA PreCheck, with automated ID verification cutting processing times to just 7-10 seconds,' the statement noted.

Originally launched in 2021, the service is now active at major airports including ATL, DTW, LAX, LGA, JFK, SLC, DCA, and SEA, with security-only access available at DEN, LAS, and PDX. Delta plans to expand the offering to all hubs and select stations by the end of 2025.
