Doha: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has expressed his approval of the recent signing of the Peace Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Alliance Fleuve Congo / March 23 Movement (AFC/M23), which took place in Doha, Qatar. This development is seen as a significant step towards achieving peace, security, and stability in the eastern regions of the DRC and the broader Great Lakes area.
According to African Press Organization, the Chairperson commended the constructive involvement of the United States Administration and the State of Qatar in facilitating the agreement. He highlighted the crucial input of various stakeholders, including the regional facilitators from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in reaching this milestone.
The Chairperson also extended his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, for his unwavering commitment and active participation in promoting peace and stability across the African continent.
