Ghana Intensifies Efforts to Eliminate Mercury in Small-Scale Gold Mining
Accra: The Government of Ghana, through the Environmental Protection Authority, has intensified its initiative to phase out the use of mercury in the Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector. This effort is part of the planetGOLD Ghana project, which is funded by the Global Environment Facility. According to Ghana News Agency, the project, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), organized two community workshops in Asankragwa, Wassa Amenfi West, and Prestea, in the Prestea Huni-Valley District.
