Kato: Mr. Ofori Darkwah, the Assembly Member for the Kato Electoral Area in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region, has expressed concern about the growing encroachments of the Kato cemetery lands. He said the situation was worrying because the encroachers had desecrated several graves, exposing human remains and skeletons which remained a serious public health hazard.
According to Ghana News Agency, in an interview at Kato, Mr. Darkwah called for immediate steps to stop the encroachment, saying if nothing was done immediately, it could lead to the outbreak of diseases as the rains set in. He noted the discovery of several skeletons and human remains exposed in the open during a visit to the cemetery, adding that the level of construction going on at the cemetery can lead to health danger.
Mr. Darkwah alleged that some chiefs in the area were selling the cemetery lands for building purposes. He described the situation as disheartening and called for immediate intervention to halt the sale of portions of the Kato cemetery lands.
