Executive Director of GDCA Honored with Leadership Award at Africa Corporate Summit

Accra: Alhaji Osman Abdel-Rahman, Executive Director of the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), has been recognized with the prestigious Leadership in Capacity Building and Organisational Development award at the 2025 Africa Corporate Summit/Awards, also known as The African Giant Edition.

According to Ghana News Agency, the award, presented by Imperial Leo Network Limited, acknowledges Alhaji Abdel-Rahman’s significant contributions to inclusive governance, community-led development, civic engagement, and youth capacity-building in northern Ghana. With over 24 years of experience in the NGO sector and 16 years in public service, Abdel-Rahman has managed a project portfolio exceeding US $1 million annually, focusing on participatory governance and support for marginalized groups such as persons with disabilities, women, and youth.

In a post-award interview in Accra, Alhaji Abdel-Rahman expressed his gratitude, stating, “The award is a very big moment to celebrate. The little that we have been doing over the years; we are happy that it is being recognized.” He attributed the accolade to the impactful interventions and approaches utilized by GDCA, emphasizing the importance of community satisfaction and involvement in driving development.

He dedicated the award to his colleagues and supporters, acknowledging the dedication of GDCA’s Board, staff, and community volunteers. “Everybody has contributed to this success and I say that we are very satisfied with it; we are able to make the impact that people are seeing and they gave us this award,” he added.

Alhaji Abdel-Rahman highlighted GDCA’s commitment to empowering communities to engage with local governments, ensuring that community concerns are integrated into planning processes. “We are looking at how to engineer development from the bottom-upwards so that people can be satisfied with whatever the government delivers for them,” he stated.

The Africa Corporate Summit/Awards aims to recognize and celebrate leaders across Africa who have significantly contributed to their countries’ economic and social governance. The event featured awardees from various African nations, including Togo, Nigeria, and South Africa.
