Tema Canoe Owners Applaud President Mahama for Nominating Ebi Bright as MCE

Tema: The Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana in Tema has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for nominating Madam Ebi Bright as Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

According to Ghana News Agency, this historic nomination marks a significant milestone as Madam Bright becomes the first female to be nominated in Tema as the Metropolitan Chief Executive in the history of local governance. The association expressed its praise and appreciation in a statement issued by Mr. Nii Adjierteh Quaye, National Best Marine Canoe Fisherman.

The association emphasized the importance of this appointment, acknowledging the crucial role women play in their fishing activities. The statement conveyed confidence in Madam Bright's ability to foster collaboration with their sector minister, promote their work, and address challenges such as the inadequate landing of small pelagics and juvenile fishes, which have recently imposed significant hardships on artisanal fishers. The association also highlighted the need for an adequate and equitable supply of premix and other fisheries relief items, free from political influence at the Canoe Basin.

The statement further expressed optimism that Madam Bright, in her new role, could effectively communicate their concerns directly to the Presidency, ensuring their struggles are addressed. The association looks forward to working with her to promote sustainable fishing practices, enhance fishing methods, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop better infrastructure to support fishmongers and fisheries activities. Additionally, they aim to increase market access for fish products to benefit the community.

The association commended President Mahama for this historic nomination and expressed anticipation for Madam Bright's leadership in addressing their concerns and helping Tema thrive once again.
