Accra: Mr Thomas Amstrong Asante, the Headmaster of Dormaa Senior High School (DORMASS) in the Bono Region, has made an appeal for support to address the school's inadequate drainage systems. The headmaster highlighted concerns about poor drainage, especially around the girls' dormitory, which is contributing to sanitation problems. He noted that wastewater frequently returns to the girls' dormitory bathtub, creating an unsightly situation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Asante explained the difficulty in improving the drainage due to the rocky nature of the ground, which makes it challenging to dig channels for water flow from the bathtub to the gutters. He made this appeal during the annual congress of the Old Students Association held at Dormaa-Ahenkro, attended by alumni, traditional authorities, and teachers.
Mr Asante emphasized that the drainage issue around the girls' dormitory has been a significant inconvenience and has drawn considerable public criticism from local residents. He recounted an incident where an assistant headmaster was almost physically attacked by residents due to the ongoing problem. The headmaster urged old students, individuals, and corporate organizations to assist in improving the school's sanitation conditions.
Additionally, Mr Asante mentioned the need for support in re-fencing the school, particularly around the Jorjor residential area. He noted that the school has a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) led by Barimah Kwadwo Damoah Afari, Sanaahene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, which has formed a committee focused on constructing the fence wall.
