Ramsau am dachstein: An 85-year-old man tragically lost his life after being trampled by a herd of cows while hiking with his wife and dog in the central Austrian municipality of Ramsau am Dachstein. The man succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, as reported by local police on Monday.
According to Ghana News Agency, the man was hiking with his 82-year-old wife when they encountered a herd of cows and their calves on a forest path. The cows, apparently frightened, charged at the couple, resulting in the man being fatally injured. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. The wife is currently hospitalized with serious injuries but is considered out of danger.
The incident occurred while the couple, who hail from Vienna, was enjoying a hike in the picturesque Austrian mountains. Eyewitnesses and staff from a nearby mountain hut provided immediate first aid and alerted emergency services to the scene.
Encounters between hikers and cattle in the Austrian mountains are not uncommon and can sometimes lead to dangerous or fatal outcomes. Cows often perceive dogs as threats, which may lead to aggressive behavior.
