Accra: Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Ghana's 2024 general elections, has declared his readiness to lead both the party and the nation in the 2028 elections. He emphasized his preparedness and experience as key reasons for his bid to be retained as the party's presidential candidate for the next electoral cycle.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Bawumia urged the party to choose a candidate who is already prepared for the 2028 elections, emphasizing that it is crucial to build on the nearly 42% of valid votes garnered in previous elections to surpass the 50% mark. Speaking to a large crowd of NPP supporters after submitting his nomination forms at the NPP headquarters in Accra, he highlighted his past contributions and the recognition he has received as an effective Vice President.
Dr. Bawumia, who has been the NPP's running mate four times and served two terms as Vice President, pointed to his extensive experience as a significant asset for the party. He stressed the importance of continuity, asserting that the NPP should not start from scratch but instead capitalize on the groundwork laid over the years.
He reflected on his dedication to the party, stating, "In the last 16 years, I have had the privilege of joining each and every constituency at least five times, to work hard on the ground and campaign and work for the NPP." He remarked that his commitment to the party and its success is evident throughout the country, as his name and face are recognized in every village, town, and city.
Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the initiatives he championed during his tenure as Vice President, which have had a positive impact on the nation. He noted, "I've also had the privilege of serving as Vice President and supporting the President and Government in our last administration with ideas that have significantly impacted the lives of millions of our people."
