Accra: Staff of the Western Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have appealed for major rehabilitation works on their office building to guarantee safety and enhance operational efficiency. They said the edifice’s current structural defects posed a threat to their safety and hinder effective operations.
According to Ghana News Agency, the building housing the Directorate is riddled with deep cracks, a collapsing ceiling, and offices that get flooded during downpours. The unsafe working environment sometimes disrupted work and endangered the lives of the staff.
Mr. Daniel Darlington Atitso, the newly appointed Western Regional NADMO Director, highlighted the neglect regarding the maintenance of state properties. He emphasized that the issue goes beyond maintenance, reflecting a failure to protect the institution designed to safeguard others. Mr. Atitso expressed urgency in addressing these concerns.
‘This is not just a maintenance issue, it is a failure to protect the very institution meant to protect others and we must fix this urgently,’ Mr. Atitso stated. His primary focus is to secure resources and restore the office to meet the demands of disaster management in the region.
Mr. Atitso also pledged to work closely with the national headquarters and relevant stakeholders to push for immediate rehabilitation works and retooling of the office for enhanced performance.
