Takoradi: Nana Poku Bosompim, the Western Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission (FC), has pledged his commitment to working with stakeholders to clamp down on illegal activities that destroy the region's forest reserves. According to Ghana News Agency, the Commission plans to strictly enforce the Minerals and Mining Act (Act 900) to protect the forest reserves from unlawful exploitation. Nana Bosompim expressed his zero-tolerance stance on illegal mining and logging activities, vowing to uphold the laws without any bias. He emphasized the importance of preserving the forests, stating that it is distressing to witness their depletion due to the self-serving interests of certain individuals. In his address to journalists in Takoradi, Nana Bosompim warned those involved in illegal activities within the forest reserves to reconsider their actions and cease such practices. He assured that the FC is determined to manage the region's forest and wildlife reserves sustainably, aiming to create a better and mor e valuable legacy for future generations. Nana Bosompim also called on traditional authorities, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and security agencies to collaborate in protecting the forests, particularly against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
