Two Individuals Remanded Over Alleged Offensive Remarks Against President Mahama

Adentan: Two individuals have appeared before an Adentan Circuit Court on allegations of making offensive and abusive statements against President John Dramani Mahama. The accused, Priscilla Duah Birago, a 29-year-old National Service Person, and Charity Dede Tetteh, also 29 and a beautician, reportedly made the statements on August 6, 2025, during a live-streamed discussion on social media.

According to Ghana News Agency, the court, presided over by Mrs. Angela Attachie, did not take their pleas and remanded them into police custody to reappear on September 2, 2025. This decision came after Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, leading the prosecution, requested that the accused individuals be remanded pending further investigations.

The facts presented in court highlighted that the Republic of Ghana is the complainant in this case. On August 6, 2025, the accused hosted a discussion on TikTok, during which they allegedly made statements suggesting harm towards President Mahama, a conduct the prosecution argues could provoke a breach of peace. It was noted that Birago disseminated the remarks under her TikTok account name 'AbenaBirago'.

The accused were subsequently arrested by law enforcement agencies, and a forensic capture of the live stream was secured as evidence. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, as stated by the prosecution.
