Swedruman Council Imposes Ban on Social Activities Ahead of Home Coming Celebration

Agona swedru: The Swedruman Council of Chiefs has announced a comprehensive ban on funerals, weddings, naming ceremonies, and various other social activities from Friday, August 1 to Saturday, August 17, 2025. This decision is part of the preparations for the Home Coming celebration of the Chiefs and the people of Agona Swedru.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ebusuapanyin Kwatu, Chairman of the Planning Committee, revealed these restrictions during the launch of the 2025 Home Coming celebration. He urged churches, bar operators, mosques, and other entities to adhere to the ban to prevent any potential clashes or confusion. The Planning Committee has organized numerous activities, including fundraising events, to support development programs as part of the celebration.

Ebusuapanyin Kwatu emphasized that the 2025 Home Coming is dedicated to educating the youth about the harmful effects of drug abuse and trafficking. Despite the police’s efforts to arrest offenders and dismantle illegal operations along Akora River, the Swedruman Council remains committed to eradicating drug-related issues within Swedru township.

Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru, highlighted that the Home Coming celebration would also honor students who excel in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASEC). This initiative aligns with the Council’s promise to support students achieving top grades in their academic pursuits.

Nana Esieni expressed concern over the increasing number of school-age children seen on the streets. He announced plans for collaboration with police and the Department of Social Welfare to address this issue. Citizens of Agona Swedru, both locally and abroad, are encouraged to attend the event, which serves as a precursor to the 2026 Akwambo festival.
