Minister of Social Affairs Malek Zahi met, on Thursday, with European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and European Union ambassador to Tunisia Marcus Cornaro.
The meeting followed up on the outcome of the meeting of the Sub-Committee on Social Affairs, Employment and Migration, held in Tunis on January 31, 2023.
They also discussed cooperation programmes between the Ministry and the European Union in the field of migration and ways to develop them in response to the current situation, the ministry said in a statement.
Zahi stressed the need to support joint work between the two parties in the field of regular migration based on a comprehensive and humanitarian approach that is not limited to the security approach. The aim is to link migration with development and address the phenomenon of irregular migration and its consequences.
For her part, the European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs stressed her willingness to strengthen cooperation with Tunisia in the field of migration.
