NPA Staff Clean Up Dzorwulu Streets and Environs

Accra: Staff of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on Wednesday undertook a cleanup exercise around their office premises and the streets of Dzorwulu in Accra to rid the community of filth.

According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise, carried out in collaboration with the 'Bus Stop Boys' as part of the Authority's Welfare Week celebration, was aimed at promoting a healthy working environment. It also created an opportunity for staff to interact with community members while sweeping the streets, desilting drains, and collecting refuse to enhance environmental health and sustainability.

Mr. Daniel Oduro Mintah, Secretary of the NPA Staff Welfare Association, said the initiative sought to encourage corporate institutions to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean. He said sanitation was not the responsibility of government and cleaning agencies alone, urging workers to ensure their offices and frontages were well maintained. He appealed to hawkers in Dzorwulu to desist from loitering and properly dispose of waste generated during their activities.

Madam Maureen Adowa Duori, a staff member, told the Ghana News Agency that the exercise highlighted the Authority's commitment to community well-being and environmental responsibility. She called for stronger collaboration between corporate bodies and community groups to achieve a cleaner Ghana.

The cleanup formed part of the NPA Staff Welfare Association's week-long celebration, held from August 25 to September 1, to foster unity among the about 600 workforce across the regions. The annual event offers employees the chance to reflect on their collective contributions to the Authority's growth.

Established by the NPA Act of 2005 (Act 691), the National Petroleum Authority regulates Ghana's petroleum downstream industry, ensuring efficiency, fairness, profitability, and consumer protection.
