NCCE Empowers Obuasi Youth on Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption

Obuasi: The Obuasi Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) recently conducted a civic engagement forum aimed at empowering out-of-school youth with essential knowledge on the rule of law and combating corruption.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event gathered 50 young individuals aged between 13 and 35, comprising 35 males and 15 females. The forum featured Mr. Samuel Yeboah Asante from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and Nana Owusu Aduomi, a local governance expert and traditional ruler, who facilitated the discussions.

The engagement focused on the principles of the rule of law, civic rights, and Ghana’s legal frameworks concerning anti-corruption, including the Whistleblowers Act. The session was designed to be interactive, with participants encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and contribute to topics on transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Participants were educated on various forms of corruption and the legal tools available to address them. Some attendees admitted it was their first encounter with the Whistleblowers Act and were enthusiastic about its provision for confidentiality, protection, and rewards for reporting corrupt activities.

Municipal NCCE Director Mr. Lawrence Nyame expressed gratitude to Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the European Union (EU) for funding the programme. The NCCE suggested holding similar forums quarterly and increasing the number of participants to 100 to further raise awareness on the rule of law and anti-corruption efforts.
