Motorists and Commuters in Keta Call for Urgent Market Road Construction

Keta: Motorists and commuters in Keta, located in the Volta Region, are calling for immediate construction and rehabilitation of the market roads, highlighting the poor condition of these roads as a significant obstacle to trade and transportation.

According to Ghana News Agency, the affected individuals are urging the government, stakeholders, and philanthropists to step in, as the deteriorating roads are leading to increased travel time, higher vehicle maintenance costs, and heightened safety concerns.

Mr. Gabriel Nusenu, a taxi driver operating in Keta Central, shared that transporting goods to and from the market has become increasingly difficult. He stated, “The poor state of the market roads is affecting trade and our work. Urgent action is needed to fix them, which would boost economic activity for communities in the area.”

He further explained that improved road conditions would facilitate easier access to markets, lower transport costs, and provide more opportunities for drivers, residents, and traders. He urged the Municipal Assembly to collaborate with stakeholders to create a comprehensive development plan.

Madam Sefakor Amable, a tomato seller at the Keta market, expressed her concerns about the pothole-ridden roads from Keta township through the Bank of Ghana branch to the main market. These conditions have forced drivers to raise fares, causing traders significant hardship. She called on the Assembly to utilize existing construction equipment or internally generated funds to reshape the roads.

Other residents voiced their frustration over the decade-long persistence of this issue, pressing the government to prioritize the construction of market roads to boost economic activity, improve livelihoods, and restore hope for traders and motorists.
