MoFA Releases 25,000 Bags of Fertiliser to Support School Farms

Accra: The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has released 25,000 bags of fertiliser for immediate distribution to 413 schools participating in the Feed Ghana Programme. The initiative is designed to bolster minor season crop production, as stated in a release from the Ministry.

According to Ghana News Agency, this move is part of ongoing efforts to maintain agricultural productivity and enhance the role of school farms, particularly at the primary, junior high, and senior high school levels, in ensuring national food and nutrition security. The Ministry has tasked the Deputy Feed Ghana Coordinator for Institutional Farming, Mr Gordon Nana Asubonteng, with ensuring the timely distribution of the fertiliser to maximize yield outcomes.

The Ministry reiterated its dedication to supplying agricultural inputs and technical support under the Feed Ghana Programme, which it identifies as a crucial element of the government's Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda. The Feed Ghana Programme seeks to enhance domestic food production by increasing access to inputs, mechanisation, and institutional farming.

Additionally, the programme encourages schools, security agencies, and other public institutions to engage in farming activities, fostering food self-sufficiency and reducing the nation's reliance on imported food.
