Mahama in Addis Ababa for 38th AU Heads of States Summit

Addis Ababa: President John Dramani Mahama is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

According to Ghana News Agency, the President arrived in Addis Ababa after attending the Munich Security Conference in Germany. He was greeted at the airport by Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, who accompanied him to the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, which took place from 12th to 13th February.

The 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, scheduled for 15th to 16th February, is centered on the theme 'Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.' The Summit aims to advance reparatory justice and promote racial healing across the continent.

In addition to these discussions, the Summit is set to elect the next Chairperson of the AU Commission. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, the current Chairperson, is expected to step down on February 15. Key candidates vying for the position include Mr. Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya; Mr. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Djibouti's Foreign Minister; and Mr. Richard Randriamandrato, a former Foreign Minister of Madagascar.
