Accra: The Ghana Gold Board, popularly known as GoldBod, has successfully dismantled a significant gold smuggling syndicate involving RAFMOH Gold Limited and NK Bermak Enterprise. The syndicate reportedly smuggled over 100 kilograms of gold, valued at GHS100 million, over a span of two months.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, described the case as the most elaborate gold smuggling operation uncovered by the organization since its inception. The breakthrough came after a tip-off from a patriotic Ghanaian whistleblower, leading to the arrest of Abdul Razak Seidu on August 27, 2025, at Winneba Junction in the Central Region. Seidu was found with 9.2 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately GHS10.2 million.
Further investigation by the GoldBod Taskforce led to the arrest of Bernard Nkrumah, a Tier 2 licensed gold buyer operating under the business name NK Bernak Enterprise, and Ibrahim Aremeyaw, a key associate of RAFMOH Gold Limited. Investigations revealed RAFMOH Gold Limited as the primary sponsor and mastermind behind the smuggling operation.
It was established that the company, through its officers and recruited couriers, illegally purchased over 100 kilograms of gold from NK Bernak Enterprise in Tarkwa in just two months. All apprehended suspects have been arraigned in the High Court, facing charges related to gold smuggling and unauthorized transportation of gold, among other offences.
After a two-week remand in NIB custody, the suspects were granted bail, although the conditions have yet to be met. Meanwhile, four suspects-Rafeeq Mohammed Nandoli A.K.A Salam, Muhammed Afsah Puthalan, Abdul Karim, and Sadique Abubakar-remain at large and are being pursued by the Ghana Police Service and the GoldBod Taskforce.
GoldBod has obtained arrest warrants for the fugitives and announced a GHS1 million bounty for each. The public is urged to report any information regarding the suspects' whereabouts to the nearest police station or GoldBod headquarters in Accra.
In response to the discovery, GoldBod has suspended the license of NK Bernak Enterprise and closed its offices in Tarkwa. Similarly, the business premises of RAFMOH Jewellery located at Palace Mall in Accra have been shut down due to their connection to the smuggling syndicate.
Mr. Gyamfi reiterated GoldBod's dedication to maintaining the integrity of Ghana's gold trade, emphasizing that any individual involved in illegal gold activities will face legal consequences.
