Ghana Extends Humanitarian Support to Gaza with Cocoa Donation

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has announced Ghana's contribution of 40 metric tonnes of made-in-Ghana cocoa products as humanitarian aid to support the residents of Gaza in Palestine. The shipment was received by the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Abdulfatah Ahmed Khalil Alasattari, marking Ghana's outreach to aid those affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama, during the presentation at the Presidency in Accra, expressed his empathy towards the conditions faced by civilians in conflict zones, particularly the women and children in Gaza. Emphasizing the human element behind the conflict, he stated, "They are a painful reminder that behind every headline and every statistic, there are human lives. People who long for peace, dignity, and hope."

President Mahama highlighted that the donation is both symbolic and practical. Cocoa, being a significant part of Ghana's economy, represents resilience and generosity. The president noted its health benefits, stating that cocoa is packed with antioxidants and essential vitamins, which are crucial for immune support and general well-being. This makes it a practical aid to the women and children of Gaza, especially in managing nutritional deficiencies.

The gesture also underscores Ghana's commitment to international peace and justice. President Mahama reiterated the country's support for a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, aligning with international law and UN resolutions. He urged all parties involved to pursue diplomacy and dialogue to achieve lasting peace.

Mr. Alasattari, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people, expressed deep appreciation for Ghana's support. He highlighted the dire conditions in Gaza, emphasizing the critical need for such humanitarian aid. The ambassador praised Ghana for its consistent stance in support of justice and human rights.

President Mahama further called upon Israeli authorities to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza by opening the borders. He urged the international community to remain steadfast in its support for peace efforts and humanitarian assistance, highlighting the global responsibility to protect dignity and uphold justice.
