Tema: The Gateway Baptist Church, located in Tema Community 11, has celebrated its 40th anniversary with a grand thanksgiving ceremony, expressing gratitude for God's steadfast faithfulness over the years.
According to Ghana News Agency, the church, which began with 17 members on March 17th, 1985, has experienced significant growth and marked this milestone with the theme 'God's Faithfulness and Provision.' Reverend Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, addressed the congregation, emphasizing that God's faithfulness is constant and not limited by time. He highlighted that the church's 40-year journey has provided invaluable lessons, equipping members to achieve even greater accomplishments through divine guidance.
Reverend Thompson elaborated on God's faithfulness, which manifests through His presence, provision, protection, and prosperity. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he remarked that the church's celebration is significant for the nation, as the Christian community contributes to the nation's development by nurturing human capital. He noted that many political, business, and professional leaders have been positively influenced by Christian teachings, particularly through mission schools.
He urged the government to partner with churches in providing grants to support mission schools with necessary facilities and infrastructure, thereby enhancing national progress in areas such as food security, job creation, and resource management. Reverend Thompson also advised those in ministry with prophetic gifts to avoid politicizing their messages and to maintain discipline and orderliness in their delivery.
Reverend Francis Guggisburg Tetteh, Head Pastor of Gateway Baptist Church, called upon churches to prioritize environmental stewardship in alignment with biblical teachings, stressing that God's care extends beyond humanity to the environment itself.
Deacon Anthony Adom, Chairman of the 40th anniversary planning committee, reflected on the church's founding in 1985 and detailed the anniversary activities, including the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, a homecoming event, and the planting of coconut trees. In a poignant moment, the congregation observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of the four deceased founders who played crucial roles in the church's establishment.
The event also served as an opportunity to raise funds for the church's mission house building project, and several founding members were recognized with citations for their significant contributions to the church's growth.
