Amasaman: The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted a GHC250,000.00 bail with two sureties each to four persons for allegedly causing damage to a fence wall valued at GHC250,000.00.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Court presided over by Ms Enid Marful-Sau required that the sureties deposit their valid national identity cards at the Court's Registry. The accused, identified as Odai Ashong, 64, Adjetey Sowah, 36, Odai Mensah, 41, and George Anum Tetteh, 48, are scheduled to make their next court appearance on March 25, 2025. By this date, the prosecution is expected to have served the accused with the necessary materials for the case.
Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru informed the Court that the complainant, Mr. Samuel Darko, a businessman residing in Tabora, Accra, reported the case. The accused individuals, Ashong, Sowah, and Mensah, are farmers, while Tetteh is a mechanic; all are residents of Samsam.
In 2020, Mr. Darko purchased four plots of land from Nii Ago Adjei at Samsam and constructed a concrete fence wall around it. The Court heard that on November 14, 2024, at about 0700 hours, Mr. Darko discovered the entire fence wall had been demolished, prompting him to report the incident to the Adjen Kotoku Police.
During the investigation, Nii Ago Adjei was invited to clarify ownership disputes. He revealed that at the time of purchasing the land, the accused and their elders had erected red flags on the property, claiming ownership. This led Mr. Darko to suspect the accused of demolishing the fence wall.
The accused were apprehended and charged following the investigation. Their legal counsel argued for bail, claiming their clients were not present at the crime scene and were unaware of the demolition. The counsel assured the Court that the accused had fixed residences and would attend court proceedings.
The prosecution requested the Court to reconsider the bail conditions due to difficulties encountered in bringing the accused before the Court. Chief Inspector Nashiru highlighted that the accused had threatened the investigator and quarreled with the prosecutor when being served court documents.
The Court cautioned the accused that any further trouble could result in their bail being revoked.
