Dormaa: Mr Dominic Adomah Ameyaw, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, has cautioned young people in the area against drug abuse and peddling, saying it can ruin their future. He expressed concern over the increasing misuse of substances such as tramadol (Red), marijuana, cocaine, and the prevalence of alcoholism among the youth in the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ameyaw advised the youth to take advantage of government initiatives like the Youth Apprenticeship Programme to learn employable skills for future livelihoods and jobs. During his visit to several churches in the municipality, he also urged girls to abstain from pre-marital sex to avoid teenage pregnancy and unsafe abortion, which he noted could adversely affect their lives. Reports by the Ghana Health Service highlighted a high incidence of cohabitation among the youth in the area, which Mr. Ameyaw addressed.
He called on residents to support the Assembly and the Dormaa Traditional Council’s cleanup campaign to enhance waste management and environmental sanitation. The Assembly’s efforts to achieve impressive scores in sanitation grading and performance assessments were emphasized, with the formation of a taskforce to strictly enforce sanitation byelaws. Mr. Ameyaw further encouraged citizens to be law-abiding and pledged the assembly’s commitment to improve the Ahantrase road.
The Reverend Joseph Bediako, Pastor in charge of Dormaa North Faith Assemblies of God Church, also urged the community to strengthen their faith in God to overcome life’s challenges.
