Charles Mawusi Advocates for Welfare Policy for Ghana Journalists Association

Accra: Mr Charles Mawusi, a Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Presidential Candidate, has announced his intention to initiate the formulation of a welfare policy through strategic planning if elected. Mr Mawusi is contesting against the incumbent, Mr Albert Dwumfour, and has emphasized the need for a well-defined welfare policy to address the specific needs of GJA members, noting the absence of such a policy at present.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Mawusi plans to fund this welfare policy by leading the GJA in investment ventures, such as farming, to generate necessary funds. Additionally, he aims to establish a savings and loans scheme to provide members with low-interest soft loans. He also intends to enhance the association’s financial management system to ensure credibility and accountability, which would help attract partnerships and funding.

Mr Mawusi has pledged to restore integrity and discipline within the association by promoting visionary and ethical leadership. He further assured members that, if elected, the national executives would address fundamental issues related to the land at the Press Centre and work with relevant authorities to develop it into a multi-purpose facility.

He emphasized his commitment to enhancing both the internal capacity of the GJA’s secretariat and the professional growth of its members. With over 20 years of experience in journalism, development, and strategic communication, Mr Mawusi believes he can mobilize resources for training to address the skills gap at the secretariat, which he described as widening.
