Assemblyman Repairs Streetlights to Curb Crime in Padmore Electoral Area

Tema: Mr. Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for Padmore Electoral Area, Tema Community One, has taken the initiative to repair broken streetlights across the community in a bid to improve security and reduce crime in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Amos stated that the move has already contributed to a reduction in incidents of robbery and other related crimes that typically occur in poorly lit areas during nighttime. He explained that the presence of well-lit streets has made it difficult for criminals to operate under the cover of darkness.

Mr. Amos shared in an interview that he decided to take action after receiving numerous complaints from residents about the increasing insecurity in certain parts of the electoral area, particularly at night. Many of the complaints highlighted that the lack of functioning streetlights was fostering criminal activities in the area.

"I realized that many of the streetlights had stopped working for some time, giving robbers the chance to attack innocent people, so I decided to repair them, and since then, the attacks have reduced drastically," he stated.

The Assemblyman urged residents to protect the lights from theft or vandalism and encouraged them to report any damaged streetlights to their respective unit committee members or himself. He promised prompt action to ensure the lights remain functional.

"I want to encourage all residents to be responsible citizens. If you see a streetlight that is not working or has been tampered with, report it immediately. We all need to work together to keep our community safe," he appealed.

Mr. Amos vowed to continue with the initiative and extend the repairs to other parts of the electoral area where lights were still not functioning. He called on other Assemblymembers and local authorities to adopt similar approaches in their respective areas to help reduce crime and improve the quality of life for residents.

Some residents praised the Assemblyman's efforts, describing the initiative as timely and commendable, especially at a time when security has become a major concern in many communities.

"He's doing well, the streets are very important and helped reduce robbery and attacks. I feel safe walking home after work, and I'm sure drivers can see the street well when driving at night," said Madam Naa Affortey, a nail technician.
