Parliamentary Interest in Disability Issues Growing – Dominic Napare

Accra: Mr. Dominic Napare, Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Disability Caucus, has highlighted the increasing interest among members of Parliament in disability issues. The Parliamentary Caucus on Disability, initially inaugurated with around 24 members, has expanded to include over 100 members.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Disability Caucus in Parliament is now recognized as a full caucus with an established committee and dedicated funding for its activities. Mr. Napare shared this development at the launch of a five-year strategic plan for the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD).

Mr. Napare, who is the Member of Parliament for Sene East, stated that the Parliamentary Caucus on Disabilities is transitioning into a comprehensive committee with more than 100 members, with forthcoming dedicated funding to support its monitoring and oversight roles. He encouraged the disability sector to continue advocating for compliance with the disability act by raising their voices.

The newly launched GFD strategic plan outlines the organization’s vision and roadmap for advancing disability rights, enhancing inclusion, and fostering institutional collaboration across various sectors. The workshop also marked the official conclusion of the Disabled People Organisation of Denmark (DPOD)-funded project, which focused on strengthening advocacy, leadership, and organizational capacity within GFD and its member organizations.

The GFD emphasized that the strategic plan would act as a practical guide to coordinate national efforts, amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, and ensure their full participation in development processes over the next five years.
