Accra: A 38-year-old pastor, Wisdom Kwame Adu, also known as Agya, has been granted GHS150,000 bail with two sureties, one of which must be justified with landed property, for allegedly stealing from his late friend. Adu, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused of stealing a Range Rover, an ATM card, and GHS27,000.
According to Ghana News Agency, ASP Issah Achiburi stated that the complainant, Mr. Samuel Awuku Darko, is the elder brother of the deceased, Emmanuel Offei, who lived in Akropong Akuapem. Adu, a friend of Offei, resides at Korleyman, near Medea. Offei was hospitalized at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in April but discharged himself voluntarily on April 30, 2025.
On May 26, Adu and Offei reportedly traveled to Kumasi for prayers. Offei passed away on June 5 on the premises of a church, and Adu subsequently informed the family. Adu returned the deceased’s phone to the complainant but did not return the unregistered Range Rover and secretly retained Offei’s Ecobank ATM card.
Between June 8 and 10, multiple ATM withdrawals amounting to GHS27,000 were traced to Kumasi and Pokuase-Amasaman. Upon receiving alerts, the complainant reported the matter to the CID Headquarters. Adu was arrested on June 17 at his rented residence, where police found GHS35,356 and £40 during a search.
The deceased’s body is currently preserved at a private mortuary in Tinkong, pending autopsy. Police have stated that investigations are ongoing.
