Accra: Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has firmly stated that there is no evidence of any illegal substances on board the two aircraft recently scrutinized at Kotoka International Airport. All security measures, including checks by Aviation Security and National Security, were thoroughly conducted, and ground handling was managed by Swissport company.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement from GACL addressed media reports suggesting the involvement of its officials in circulating false information to Reverend Ntim Fodjour. The Reverend alleged drug trafficking activities associated with the two aircraft. These claims were supported by the Ranking Member on Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee and MP for Assin South, who insinuated the presence of illegal substances on the aircraft.
GACL clarified that the authority to issue landing permits rests with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and National Security, not GACL. The statement also highlighted that Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of GACL, has no association with Rev. Ntim Fordjour, having never met or communicated with him.
The company emphasized the responsibility of those making allegations to provide evidence. It warned of potential legal action against any individuals or media entities promoting false information that damages the reputation of the company, its Managing Director, or the government.
GACL urged the public to dismiss these baseless allegations and view them with the contempt they deserve.
