Customers in Berekum Unhappy with NEDCo

Berekum: Some unhappy customers in Berekum in the Bono Region have called on the National Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to open more electricity power sales points in the area. According to them, the three electricity vending points that enabled them to buy power were unable to serve the people and creating long queues at those points.

According to Ghana News Agency, during visits to the electricity power sales points, many customers had formed queues to buy power. In an interview, some of the customers described the situation as disgusting, alleging that only two out of the three sales points worked during the weekends.

Madam Dora Dare, one of the customers, shared her experience, saying she had been in the queue for more than three hours 'just to buy electricity power and I don't understand why the NEDCo can't create more of the sale points'. Another customer, Mr Samuel Asante, expressed concerns over NEDCo's transition from post-paid to pre-paid meters, worrying that 'we in Berekum often experience difficulties whenever we want to buy power due to alleged network problems'.

Mr Alfred Opoku, another customer, urged NEDCo to privatize the power sales, suggesting that this would greatly tackle emerging problems associated with the sale of power in the Berekum Municipality. When contacted, Mr Eric Donkor, the Berekum Branch Manager of the VRA/NEDCo, stated that the company was working tirelessly to address the situation and urged the customers to remain calm.
