Accra: The Government has announced the tragic deaths of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, in a military helicopter crash at the Adansi Area in Ashanti Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the crash claimed the lives of several prominent figures, including Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a former Ashanti Regional Minister.
Others who perished in the incident were Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, shared the news at a press conference in Accra, stating, "I have the unpleasant duty, sadly, to announce a national tragedy involving the crash of a military helicopter this morning around the Adansi area in Ashanti region."
He further conveyed that President John Dramani Mahama and the Government extended their condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and the servicemen who died in service to the country. "All flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice," he added.
The press conference was attended by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and other Ministers of State.
