UEW Cooperative Credit Union Engages Members on Union’s Sustainability

Winneba: Mrs. Christina Kilson, the Chief Executive Officer of the University of Education, Winneba Co-operative Credit Union (UEWCCU), has lauded members of the Union for their unwavering loyalty and support. She expressed her gratitude during separate meetings held in Winneba, Senya, Cape Coast, and Buduburam, where she addressed members on the Union’s sustainability and engaged in insightful discussions.

According to Ghana News Agency, the meetings provided a platform for members to raise questions about pressing issues related to their welfare and the Union’s growth. Mrs. Kilson emphasized the importance of such interactions in strengthening the members’ service experience and enhancing decision-making. She also provided a brief history of the UEWCCU, which began in November 1994 with 28 members, comprised of Senior Members, Senior and Junior Staff of the University of Education, Winneba. The Union was initially established as a self-help project to cater to the financial needs of its members and promote a savings culture.

Mrs. Kilson highlighted the Union’s evolution into a leading cooperative credit union with three branches, three agencies in the Central and Ashanti Regions, and a virtual branch, emphasizing its significant impact on the communities it serves. She conveyed the appreciation of the Board and Management for the members’ contributions to the Union’s growth and expansion and assured them of their commitment to ensuring its sustainability.

Despite global challenges, Mrs. Kilson noted that the Union has maintained a growth trajectory by leveraging competitive advantages and member-focused strategies. These include diversifying revenue streams, enhancing operational resilience, staff development, proactive member risk management, and performance management. The Union remains committed to providing secure and convenient services while focusing on sustainable growth through excellent member services, technology integration, and strategic marketing.

To enhance its information technology infrastructure, the Union has introduced Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) for members’ convenience and operational efficiency, encouraging them to utilize this service for transactions.

During an open forum, members provided constructive feedback, commended the founding members for their beneficial initiative, and acknowledged the staff’s impactful performance over time. They also expressed gratitude to the management team for ensuring the safety of their funds.

Dr. Mrs. Gloria Amah of the UEW, who chaired the meetings, praised the members for their significant contributions to the Union’s progress. She stressed the importance of periodic engagements between management and members to gather suggestions and ideas that could enhance members’ well-being. She highlighted that the Union’s sustainability is attributed to the members’ loyalty and contributions, urging them to continue supporting the Union’s services and products for their betterment.
