Accra: US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Hamas has ‘three or four days’ to respond to the Gaza peace plan, which was outlined in Washington a day earlier. The peace plan aims to address ongoing conflicts in the region and has garnered support from a broad coalition of countries.
According to Ghana News Agency, Trump emphasized the widespread support for the plan, stating, “All of the Arab countries are signed up. The Muslim countries are all signed up. Israel’s all signed up. We’re just waiting for Hamas.” The president underscored the urgency of the situation, warning that if Hamas does not engage with the plan, it could lead to a “very sad end.”
The proposal consists of 20 points, including an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the disarmament of Hamas is a critical component of the plan. It envisions governance of the area by a transitional government comprised of Palestinian technocrats, overseen by an international body.
Meanwhile, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari indicated that Hamas is reviewing the peace plan ‘responsibly,’ signaling potential progress as the deadline looms.
