Sunyani: Mr Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has announced that construction work on the reshaping of access roads in the Sunyani Daily Market, known locally as 'Masom Masom', will commence soon. His statement comes in response to the concerns raised by traders and market women regarding the condition of the market. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Agyei urged the traders to remain calm during an interview with the media in Sunyani, assuring them that plans for the market's improvement were well underway and that contractors would soon be on site. The traders had expressed their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating access roads, which have been further damaged by recent rains, affecting the usual buying and selling activities. Mrs Abigail Kyei, a leader among the fruit sellers, called on Mr Agyei and Mr Seid Mubarak, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, to keep their earlier promise to improve the market conditions. She recalled their visit to the market four to si x months ago, during which they pledged to address the poor state of the access roads. Mrs Martha Twumwaa, an orange seller, highlighted the adverse impact of the rains on the market, noting that the muddy conditions were hindering normal market activities. This sentiment was echoed by Mrs Patricia Ofosu, a cassava seller, who mentioned that many traders have been forced to relocate their businesses to the shoulders of the main street due to the poor conditions. She expressed concern that, without immediate intervention, the traders might overcrowd the street, causing customers to avoid entering the market altogether.
