Six Illegal Miners Apprehended at Sefwi Mrewa

Sefwi mrewa: The Western North Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended six individuals involved in illegal mining activities at Sefwi Mrewa in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality. The arrested individuals are identified as Emmanuel Addae, 20, Boateng Enoch, 26, Kwa Yurimpue, 26, Elvis Dery, 37, Nana Kwabena, 42, and Quansah Albert, 40.

According to Ghana News Agency, the arrests were made following a request from Koantwi Mining Company Limited, which urged the police to take action against individuals illegally mining on their concession. A police press statement revealed that a team of 20 officers, led by the Regional Operations Commander, conducted the operation, encountering approximately 20 individuals at the site and successfully arresting six of them.

The statement further explained that the six suspects have been arraigned before the Sekondi High Court. They have been remanded into prison custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on October 22, 2025. The Regional Police Command has emphasized its ongoing commitment to tackling illegal mining activities and has issued a warning that any attacks on security personnel will be met with prompt action.
