Bronikrom: A sense of fear and urgency continue to grip the people of Bronikrom, near Abrepo in the Kumasi metropolis, following the missing of a seven-year-old boy during a flood incident.
According to Ghana News Agency, the flood was caused by a heavy downpour in the community on Saturday, September 28, 2025. The boy, identified as Nana Kwame, was said to have been swept into the Owabi River by the flash waters during the rainfall, but his body had still not been found despite intensive search and performance of rituals by the community members.
Mr. Emmanuel Nyarko, an eyewitness, told the Ghana News Agency that the boy was playing with his friends in the rain on that fateful day. He said in an attempt by the boy to retrieve slippers, which were being swayed by the rain into a gutter, he was swept away by the heavy current of the floods into the nearby Owabi River.
Mr. Nyarko said the Assemblyman in the community, after hearing the incident, made a report to the police and mobilized some people to search for the boy in the river and the nearby forest but to no avail. He said after the unsuccessful attempt to retrieve the boy, the chiefs and elders in the community performed some rituals to the river gods, but still, the body of the boy had not been found five days after the incident.
A fetish priest directed the people to go and search for the boy under a palm tree, but they could not find the child nor his body. Mr. Nyarko said the incident had left the parents of the boy and the entire community in deep grief. He said the elders were continuing with the performance of the rituals until the body would be found.
