Kumasi: The youth of Ghana, spearheaded by a delegation from the Ashanti Region, have publicly announced their endorsement of Dr. Bryan Acheampong as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general election. This significant declaration was made during a press conference held in Kumasi, considered by many as the ‘political nerve centre’ of Ghana and a traditional stronghold of the NPP.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event was organized by 20 constituency youth organizers from the Ashanti region. It brought together regional executives, constituency leaders, polling station workers, and numerous young party members united under a common call for unity and visionary leadership. The conveners, speaking on behalf of the youth, stressed that Mr. Acheampong embodied the temperament and conciliatory spirit required to prevent post-election divisions within the party.
The youth group cited several achievements under Dr. Acheampong’s leadership, highlighting initiatives such as the launch of Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II (PFJ 2.0), which introduced a comprehensive value-chain credit system for farmers, and the expansion of irrigation projects to ensure year-round farming and food security. They also acknowledged his reforms at COCOBOD, which improved cocoa pricing and protected farmers’ livelihoods, and his role in the C´te d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative, which bolstered Ghana’s position in global cocoa negotiations.
Additionally, the group praised Dr. Acheampong’s interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic, which supported rural livelihoods under the ESRF programme, and his contributions to education and skills development, including scholarships, vocational training, and infrastructure support across schools. In his constituency of Abetifi, he has initiated projects ranging from boreholes and health programmes to NHIS enrollment and entrepreneurial support for apprentices.
Dr. Acheampong’s business ventures were also noted, particularly the Rock City Hotel in Kwahu-Nkwatia. Touted as one of Africa’s largest hospitality projects, the hotel has created hundreds of jobs and sustained local businesses across the hospitality value chain.
The conveners framed their endorsement as a call to action for NPP delegates, executives, and polling station officers nationwide. They emphasized the need for a leader with competence, charisma, discipline, delivery, and neutrality to unify the party post-internal contests. ‘That leader is Bryan Acheampong,’ the youth declared.
The endorsement, wrapped in symbolism, was launched from Kumasi, which supporters described as a national movement’s starting point. The youth leaders left no doubt about their stance: ‘Bryan Acheampong for Flagbearer 2028 – The Unifier, The Visionary, The Deliverer.’
